| SPAIN
The enchanting world of Spain awaits you. Picasso and Gaudi will capture your imagination as you wander the streets and museums of Barcelona. Seville is alive with Flamenco and Sevillanas, music and dance united. The bustling markets of Madrid ring with traditional and modern efficiency. Spanish art tells most of the story. Toledo and Segovia bring a fascinating history to life as well as the Disney castle! Granada's Alhambra is a sight to behold. The Pyrenees are a national treasure, calling visitors to tranquil peaks, lost valleys and breathtaking natural spaces. Every town boasts unique, unusual festivals, a big excuse for a citywide fiesta. Everyday a long leisurely lunch relaxes the bones during siesta. Don't expect to do more than eat; everything shuts down. And Spanish nightlife is cause for an extra day in the itinerary dedicated to sleeping: tapas and drinks and bar hopping, dinner at ten o'clock, more tapas and drinks, the disco, loud music and lights and dancing at 2 AM, then churros (sugar doughnuts) and chocolate (thick hot chocolate syrup) at 5 AM and finally another beer and bargain hunting at the Rastro Flea market by 7. Then to bed around noon. There is so much to explore here in Spain, beaches, skiing, kayaking, rock formations, sherry and dessert wines, castles, food, history and culture. Unless you keep a journal, it is hard to keep track of the many personalities of the Iberian Peninsula. Immerse yourself in a cultural celebration; experience a week or two in Spain. I spent a year working as an English and Journalism teacher at the American School of Madrid. I speak Spanish and have visited several areas of the country including the Canary Islands. |
