HUNGARY Sleep in a nineteenth century fort in Budapest and visit many medieval castles. Bathe in thermal baths, some in natural caves. Soak in mud pools or steam rooms after a long massage. Wine taste in wine country and do the Danube for a dinner cruise. Discover quaint villages and one with yellow brick roads. Awaken the ghosts of communism, then lay them back to rest. Try a hay ride across the great Hungarian plain and a long hike in the Bükk National Forest where you will expect knights in shining armor to gallop by. Add another week to your vacation and visit Prague, Vienna, Dracula's Castle in Romania, or wherever else your heart desires. I spent two years living and working in Salgótarján, Hungary as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I speak Hungarian, know the territory well, and have several enterprising friends there. |
